Lee Family: The Reunion

Well it's that time of the year when chinese families all around the world gather @ home to have a hearty meal... it was no different for my family. And this was the year i told myself: i'm gonna help out with the preparation of the gargantuan feast. My mum has laboured long and hard enough for CNY preparations, and it's time I did my part too.

That's my mum... my hero. She's such a pillar in the family. Love her to bits. btw, can u believe she's 60 this year?!?! hahah oops. sorry mum. wasn't supposed to reveal ur age. hahah

Yes yes that's right... i was one of the chefs involved in making the feast that you see in the picture. Muahaha. Okay well, i did the chopping and stuff... and also the cooking of rice. But hey, at least that's something. My mum refused to let me cook... afterall, that IS her 'territory'.

The table was too crowded to fit in all the dishes, that my eldest bro even had to hold up one dish!! ahahaha Oh my dad. geez. I dunno lah, my brothers and i getting more frustrated at him. Everytime never help out, only know how to watch tv, complain here and there.... sigh. Actually, it's good that he didn't help out in the kitchen too. He'd make a mess of everything anyway.

And well my brothers and i got quite bored... so we do what wacky brothers do...

... We played table tennis on our ROUND dining table, with a stack of tissue paper as the 'net'. hahahaha. that was me having a mini-contest with my sis-in-law~ hehehe.

We also spent some time laughin over this video which is damn friggin hilarious. Thanks to melissa for forwarding me this video!! it's awesome!

Sigh i miss my gf very much. she's in JB now with her whole extended family. I'm just not used to celebrating a happy occassion w/o her. Well sweetie i hope everything's going fine~ can't wait till u get back~ =)

Happy New Year everyone!! May you have a RATtling time!!

The Kid in all of us...

I was hosting a kids central event over the weekend at United Square... i just suddenly paid more attention to the the families and the cute little kids there. Really heartwarming.

Kids. Irritating as they may be, they are innocent... and their laughter and tears unstained by the complexities of life.

All they want is attention. Is to have fun... and laugh. I think that's the core of our being. That's why they say there's a kid in all of us. The child is really the purest form of humans.

Such cute kids... they were jumping all over... just wanting to have some fun. So many of them come up to me and say "excuse me, are we going to play somemore games?"... some might find that irritating, but i look beyond that to understand his/her motivation. U'd realise that they're just emoting something that's true. that is raw. Something we don't see, nor cherish anymore.

Find your inner kid. Find your purest form.

My brother Justin celebrated his 32nd birthday over the weekend. The whole family had dinner at Magarita's. Poor Justin had a fever while we were having dinner. He was really out of sorts. poor guy. Nonetheless, Happy bday bro!

Happy Birthday Dad!

My Dad turned 60 on sunday... and the brothers and i decided to throw him a big party, inviting his friends and our relatives as well! well i'm glad my father truly enjoyed himself. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking...

Not to be mean, but if bad singers had deities, they most probably would be my parents. hahaha I'm sorry but i think my parents can't really sing. My mum can sing marginally better than my dad. Okay lah it wasn't totally horrendous.

"The birthday buns", they call it. hahah our first dish arrived after a long wait... and boy did everyone gobble them down. hahah the funny thing was, there was the HUGE version of the birthday bun especially for my dad. hahah all of us, found it so amusing and had a fun time playing aroung with it... even sherms and i took a whack at it. hahahha. (btw, doesn't sherms look sweet in that pic? she can look quite good while playing with a bun, can't she? hahaha sounds wrong)

Think this must have been the favourite dish for sherms and i: Peking duck skin in crepe . Yummy with a capital Y, U, M, M, and Y. hahah. tasted really good with the special sauce too!

I admired Sherm's mum for having the courage to kick start the atmosphere by singing beautifully a japanese song. She really got the ball rolling.... and she can really sing. haha.

I think, based on the very few good singers we noticed that day, O levels should include "Singing" as one of the COMPULSORY subjects. We could really do with more good singers. hahaha.

There you go... the birthday BOY. 6 big candles. one huge cake.

We went round to every table for a 'yam seng' session. hahaha as though my dad was getting married again! CHOY! anyway see my cousin niece in that pic? SOOOOo adorable!!! she was covering her poor little ears that were probably jarred from the very loud cheering @ the table...

Gratification: As i drove my parents us home after the whole event, my mum asked my dad if he was happy... my dad replied with a resounding "YES". I dunno if that was authentic cos he was rather tipsy haha... but i'm pretty sure he meant it. and to me, that's all that matters.
Happy Birthday, Daddy. Love ya.

My Birthday Celebrations part 3

Following the trend of trilogies, here's my 3rd celebration... this time, with my family! We were supposed to be gorging down siew mais, har kaus and paper-wrapped chicken at Crystal Jade, but unfortunately the queue was just wasn't budging. So we decided to head down to this restaurant called Tonkishi... famous for its katsu (cutlets). Here's how it went:

As you can see, there was a copious amount of food... Lots and lots of deep-fried stuff. hehe i like. For the katsus ranged from pork to fish, sweet potato, egg plant, loin, prawn etc... and we had sides like jap curry, potato salad (yummy), miso soup, edamame and fried tofu (damn friggin good). On top of that the restaurant offered free flow of rice and cabbage! something we didn't have stomach for, actually.

Seems like Justin was looking to steal some food from Sheryl, while Ivan was just bracing himself for the feast ahead. Notice: both my bros have the same way of holding their chopstick while choosing a 'target' item on the table.

My parents were rather satisfied with the meal, i think. While as for me... you could tell from that pic how i felt about it. hahha. Yummy.

Believe it or not, this is the picture of when we were done with the food. Seems like there's some food left here and there, but our tummies forbade us from consuming anymore. haha.

I wanna thank Ivan and Yuki for the watch they got for me! It's an orange "Smash" watch. Hope the brand name doesn't suggest what will happen to the watch in the future. Hehe
And Thanks to Justin and Sheryl for the very nice blue Nike shirt!

I would also like to thank a few of my dear friends for their well-wishes! Thanks Janet, Liling, Tzi Hon, Ning Xia, Louis, Sherm's parents, Brigette, Grace, Nabs, Joycelyn and others...
And a happy birthday to Jeremy Soh too! yeah man 29th July Rocks!! woohoooo

Las personas especial en mi viva...(part 1)

Pardon my chinese in the title. Haha. This entry is dedicated to the people who mean alot to me. And when i say alot, i mean, A LOT. not like, oh cos they've helped me do my homework once before. I mean, w/o them, my life would be that much more miserable.

In no order of merit, here are the people in my life:

My girlfriend, Shermeen Tan. Love of my life. In case you find her familiar, yeap she's the one who appeared on newspapers for her cafe/bar, "frujch", that she jointly opened in SMU. I always hang out at her bar. it's a Great place. nice ambience, loads of games, comfy sofas, delicious snacks (esp milkshakes. "her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.." hhahaha)... ahhhh. The recipes of relaxation. I'm not promoting for her, really. cross my heart and hope to excrete razor blades. OUCH
Anyway... she makes my life complete. It's been 1 year and 3 months already, and we're still madly in love. She's the kinda person who you meet, and you never thought anyone could make you smile so much. She has this bubbliness in her that endears to people. Well aren't i glad she's mine. hahaha.

Then there's my parents! Of course they're important to me. While there are loads of stuff i can't stand about them, i love them truly. My dad, 60 years old... humorous, outgoing and generous. He's your typical man. Egoistic, profanity-loaded, techy, only-like-action-movies kinda man. He won't be caught dead admiring a piece of Picasso Art, that's for sure. Haha but as a Dad, he's great. He's given me a lot of freedom to do what i want cos he trusts me. Either that or he's too lazy to bother. Hahaha.

My mum, 58 years old. Can't believe it right? When i tell people her real age, their jaws drop. She looks like she's in her early 40s. hhaha she's time-defying. She dresses funkily, and her hairstyle is like a manifest of her undying spirit. She's someone i admire so much. She's been through a lot in life, and yet she has the energy for MORE! haha Mrs Motivated. At the same time she shows concern for the family in soo many ways. what's there not to love abt her. I pity she's the only female in the family. It's kinda hard for her, cos there's no one she can share clothes with, to cook with, to girl-talk with. Well, haha i try my best, but there are somethings that only girls can do.

O'nii san, O'neh san!! haha my eldest brother, Ivan and my sister-in-law, Yuki. Well i'm gonna focus on my eldest bro. Ivan's really a great big bro. he's already 34. Huge age gap huh? but u know what, i kinda like it. It's like, he really is a BIG bro to me. He takes care of me when my parents aren't around... and all that. When i mean 'take care', i mean he brings me out to play bowling at 1 am in the morn, and play pool late at night too... haha he teaches me all the vices. And he is also some sort of my fashion guru. He's the sort who would look good in anything. haha. but what i love most about him is that he brings so much laughter with him whenever he's around. He's a real joker, and always tries to lighten up everyone's moods. What a guy.

That's my second bro, Justin, and his girlfriend, Sheryl. What fascinates me about Justin is that he is really street smart. Where to get cheapest home appliances, where to get good cars and stuff like that. Even in getting things done, he is swift and decisive. (geez that sounded like a tagline for SAF or something). He is also a joker, nonetheless. Well kinda think of it, i have a very funny family. hahaha. see? i'm laughing already! hahah i admire Justin cos he's really smart (contrary to what his secondary and tertiary grades depict) and he's also very cute.. (as you can see from his distorted face in the picture) and he seems much younger than 32 years old!
Oh on a side note, my brothers were never this nice to me as they are now. When i was little, they would use me as a victim of their wrestling-moves experiments. Hahah!
