Another Chapter Closes...

What a bittersweet evening it was... the 28th February will be one night i'll remember for a very long time to come.

twas my very last gig for SMU. SMU, the place where i found my element, where i found my passion for hosting... where i found my calling in life. Of all the shows i've done for SMU, this one couldn't have been more appropriate for a finale - It was for Caderas Latinas... the club i adore so much. I've never been a member of the club, but i love the people there, and the family spirit they have. It's really heartwarming. And i've always had fun hosting for them anyways. On top of that, it was a big event... with the kinda crowd an emcee could only dream of. The stage was set... so to speak. it was showtime. It was time for Latin Festival 2008, Bailamos en la calle!

I had the time of my life! the performances were breathtaking! the performers were hotter than jessica alba in an oven! the crowd was in full volume... the games were a crowd-pleaser... everything was perfect. And most of all, i was in my element. I loved the autonomy the organising comm gave me... Thus, i really let loose and gave it my all.

I received a few compliments about my performance... and i would like to sincerely thank all who have given them to me. You have no idea how much it means to me, especially since i want to make this my career... thank you guys sooo much. I would especially like to thank Corina for helping me out and for being such a great programs director, and of cos Huiyi... for being the BEST emcee liasion i could ask for! Last but never least, my darling Shermeen... your presence and support was all i needed to get by...

I'm very proud of SMU Caderas Latinas. They really made this kickass event a real success! You should have seen the jam packed crowd! it was like, a record attendance at DXO, ever! I was perspiring sooo much cos there was just too many people! hahaha

Alas, that was how it all ended for me. I won't be emceeing any more SMU events anymore (at least as a student)...what a way to conclude a chapter of my life. somehow that wrings my heart a little. I'm gonna miss it... i know i will, someday.

on a side note: shermeen and i have successfully completed creating this video for a client... he needed a video to show HIS clients the entire process of his job.... but with a little tongue-in-cheek... hehehe.

This the weekend to be busy.... falalalala lalalala

I had a very eventful saturday... it first started off at Thomson plaza. I swear it's such an 'ulu' mall. it's so hard to get there! but i was surprised at the completeness of it! they have everything there! a supermarket, furniture place, boutique stores, restaurants, even pet shops! haha

anyway back to the topic... i started off the day being Santa!! hahah so cool!! and i had to speak like him too! "Ho Ho Ho! Meeerrry Christmas!"

It was a very touching experience for me. Kids would be so happy to see me... some came up to me and asked "Santa? can i have my presents this year?" Hahaha so adorable. I just love bringing smiles to these kids...

then i had some dinner with sherms at raffles city Soup Spoon. On a cold rainy day, a bowl of warm mushroom soup can launch me to cloud 9 man... i swear. Oh and the main atrium of raffles city which was previously under renovation is finally open. very nicely done i must say. Nice layout, and good brands brought in! Now raffles city is swarming with ppl!

At night i hosted for Toni & Guy Academy's Graduation Show. It's quite an honour to be hosting for them actually. I have utmost respect for their designers. Thanks to Alina for recommending me to the academy!

Congrats to the graduates!! Shaun (only 17yr old), stephanie (only 18), Odie.... and especially Helen. She's a mother of 2... previously she was a housewife for 14yrs. I think it takes a lot of determination and strength to continue learning at that age... and guess what? She was awarded the outstanding student award! great stuff! In fact i hear it's very very stressful to be a trainee at the academy... so i salute all the graduates!

After all that, i went down to Blu Jaz at haji lane to join shermeen and nabilah... didn't like the music at first.. but there was this interesting lead singer who was sharing some kinda profound philosophy... something along the lines of "to love, you must know how to unlove"... and "eat less now so you can eat more later..." ... hahaha she could just add a tune to those words and she'd have a whole new song there.

There was this other jazz band playing at the 1st level of Blu Jaz when i went down to have some snacks... the band's called "Ayaschool and the 3 crazy guests". It consisted of a pianist, saxist, basist and a drummer/singer. Each and every one of them brilliant in their own rights. They played such lovely music and their chemistry was good! Lovely... u can catch them at Blu jaz every saturday 930pm to 1am.

That concluded my day. a wonderfully eventful day that i wouldn't want to forget. that's why i'm blogging it. hahahah.

Speaking of music, i notice that techno music is really losing its creativity. When i was hosting for the event i mentioned in my previous entry, there was this song that the DJ played and it went like this:

They know what is what
But they don't know what is what
they just strut
What the F***

Those were the ONLY lyrics of the song! Haha of course the F word was censored. But i mean, WHUD??? for the sake of coming up with a new song, they have lyrics like that? So the question is, do they know what is what or don't they? and what the hell is what??

Oh here's a lame riddle for all of ya!

Which part of the house does the sheep like most?

My Legs Scream for Help...

What a weekend! Spent both saturday and sunday hosting at Funan Mall for the launch of ELAN online, a multiplayer online Role-playing game... (gee... God knows how many times i've said that...) It was pretty alright... the best thing about it? The people. From the event planners, to the organisers - they were all very nice! Got along with them pretty well... at least i hope i did. Heh. Big hello to new friends (in no order of merit, friendliness, attractiveness, height, gender, bloodtype, dialect or preferred mode of transport): Gary, Shandy, Michelle, Melissa, Hansen, Julia, Andrew, Zoe and June!

The worst thing about the event? I had to stand for like, 8 hours each day, trying to get the attention of people walking pass... ugh. My knees almost went on strike.

Cute costumes for the cosplayers. Too bad some of them didn't fit perfectly.

During the event, one of the participants of one of the contests told me i look like Wang Li Hom, the singer. i'm like, why do ppl think that way!?!?! Some others told me that too. Really meh?!?

Just this morning (monday), i played badminton with sherms, malik and Zhichao... What a workout. Who would have known that a mere 45 minute session of badminton could make you perspire so much! All the lunges and the scurrying back and forth really gave my legs a 'run' for its money. pun fully intended. Now not only my knees hurt, my thighs and my ass muscles are sore. So sore that i feel 'sore-ry' for them. Muahahaha.

At this point, i would like to dig my nose. In addition, i'd also like to apologise to Janet... I'm so so sorry babe, for missing your bday and didn't give u any well wishes on the day itself! ARGH! i feel so bad! but hey i got present for ya! Hope to meet u up soon!!

Weekend Wonder...

I hosted for 2 different events over the weekend... Explorer Kid Amazing Race at Downtown east on both saturday and Sunday morning.. and voice-over for CK Tangs 75th Anniversary.

For the former, it was quite a terror travelling from CCK to Pasir Ris, and back again!! gosh. Thank God for PSP. But it was reaaaaallly nice hosting that event cos the families there were so enthusiastic!! And as usual, kids were just sticking to me... hahaha but they were adorable. Okay, most of them were. Think the superlative on facebook that Charlene gave me was true... that i'm "Most Likely to get marriage proposals from 6-year olds" hahaha anyway I had fun! hope to host for them again soon!

The VO for Tangs was fun too! One of the few times i remain in the shadows while making announcements... usually i'm upstage. However the only people who got to go upstage were these 3 ladies, named the Dreamgirls, who were engaged to perform for the event. Here's a video of them. Check it out~

Something pissed me off. Big time. I was going home on saturday night... boarded the bus 190 from opposite Far East Shopping Centre, headed to the last row to sit down. There were 2 seats to the right that were empty. The guy sitting in the centre had to make way for me to sit on the seats. The moment i sat down, my butt started to feel cold, and wet. F**k! i sat on air-conditioning condensed water. I move to the seat next to it, and it was wet too! I got off the seat, and asked the guy in the centre: "The seats wet?" although i already knew the answer to that one, but i wanted to see if HE knew about it. STUPIDLY, he said "Yeah, they're wet..." i mean WTF?!?! and he couldn't be BOTHERED to warn me before i sat down!?!?! wouldn't any NORMAL person at least warn anyone who intends to sit there??? Whatever happened to courtesy, to being nice, to bloody having some conscience???

Anyways...*inhales deeply to calm thyself*... i saw this video on youtube... and it's about this swedish female gameshow host and how she puked while hosting the show. Have a look. No i'm not poking fun at her.

Apparently she was having menstrual discomfort at that pt in time, and usually it makes her nauseous... But look at the way she carried herself. Impressive. professional. She endured the discomfort to host the show, and when shit hit the fan (or in this case, vomit hit the floor), she still remained composed. Respect.

4 shows in 4 days... ugh

Since thursday till yesterday (sunday), i'd been hosting non-stop. here are the events that i was busy with:

1st event, Thursday afternoon: Balls of Fury Movie Promotion event. Had a table tennis tournament going on at Jurong Entertainment Centre. Response was rather slow.. but i heard the weekend crowd was amazing. damn i missed it.

2nd event, Friday evening: EVE, ACF Night 2007. the crowd was hard to get going, but warmed up eventually. Hosted my very own stage games... but didn't get to do my last one. Sigh. oh well. This event should be my last school event i'd host for this term.

HAhaha merry's face tells it all!! the food was quite a letdown. Speaking of merry.. she's in Europe now.. lucky girl!! take care dear!

Wilson was so gone.

Old birds, anyone?

3rd event, Saturday: Tamagotchi event at Suntec City. I was like, WHUD?? Tamagotchi is still IN??? hahah amazing. But really, the idea of having a virtual pet with virtual poo (that requires a push of a button to clear up) is rather tempting.

So anyway just beside us there was an American Express Platinum Card roadshow going on, with various performances like kickboxing, yoga, and the caporeira dance as u can see from the video below. Quite a crowd pleaser i guess. Didn't really like their emcee though. Think he was a glorified Ah beng.

Met Malik and Charlene for dinner after the event... then while I and Malik were walking to the bus-stop on our way home, we saw fireworks coming from the National Museum! Coolness! hahaha. Sorry, cheap thrill.

4th Event: Ka-Ching!! $$$$ It was the final episode of the kids central show "Ka Ching" filmed at Vivo-City. I was there as a stage games host... just to play some games with the kids there. It was very fun!! And SOME of the kids were absolutely adorable! there were these 2 little girls who kept hanging around me. One even bought me jelly!! So cute...

I was absolutely exhausted from all the shows... didn't help that some of the days i didn't really have good rest at all. But boy did i sleep well last night. haha. needed it lah i guess.

HELLLOOOOO ladies!

On 31st August, i hosted a staff luncheon (much like a dinner and dance, only that it's in the afternoon) @ Bliss Garden Restaurant (Singapore Expo) for Eileen's Childcare centre. As you could probably infer from the title of this entry, my audience was entirely consisted of the estrogen-dominant species. Yup. You must be thinking.... "WOW! lucky you, jonny!"... i assure you only a small handful caught my attention. hahha

anyway I was actually rather cool with the idea of hosting for them until I got to the restaurant VIP room itself. Have a look and u'll understand why.

Low and behold: the incredible booster of my melodic voice. A Karaoke System. geez.

Here's the room. 4 tables only. In one straight line! double geez!

Another one of my biggest fears did a number on me too. The crowd hardly understood English. They were mostly Chinese! *Lady scream in background*... So there i was speaking partially in chinese and english. Something that i was struggling with initially, but i managed to pull it off. I think it was mainly because they were just so amused by my mandarin.

Despite all the pernicious setbacks, i managed to conduct the games well, and got the crowd going. Well that's an understatement actually. I got the crowd screaming now and then. Hey you know the saying... "Girls, just wanna have fun... oh... girls, just wanna have fun... that's what they really waaaaannttt..." okay u get the point. They were really enjoying themselves!

At the end of everything, Mrs Tay (the boss of the company) thanked me and showed her gratitude of the job well done by giving me a big fat hug and a big fat paycheck as well. Hahaha for that moment in time it felt like i had a sugar mummy.

After getting some accolades from the crowd, i felt good about myself... When it seemed like my darkest hour, i pulled through. Pat on my back...

Kidabion, anyone?

Just yesterday (saturday) i hosted an event at Bukit Panjang Plaza called "Kidabion 4 million + 1 smiles"... meant to promote the new health supplement foe kids called Kidabion, and it's those chewable capsules... where the moment u break the shell, the juice bursts out! Much like putting a whole fried (wet) egg yolk into your mouth and then breaking it with your gums... oooh yeahhhhh. hahah anyway the capsules tastes pretty nice though.
However as for the entire structure and flow of the event, let's just say it didn't really sit easy with me. I personally felt that my boss tried to squeeze too many things into one event that it was just overwhelming for the limited staff, the emcees and i'm sure the audience as well. We had a memory game, a guessing game, a human calculator game, a crazy cups competition, a photo competition, colouring contest, mural painting.... all within 4 - 5 hours! That's insane!!! I mean, i was struggling to keep up with all the happenings as well. As a result i didn't have any rest and i almost lost my voice. Nonetheless i'll be heading down for another round today. hope it goes well...

The multi-talented Genevieve: First dancing, mascoting, emceeing, acting, now balloon twisting?? Gee. i hear next she's going to be stunt driving, while balancing a dog on her head.

This is the part of the event i enjoyed. It's called Crazy cups... basically they have stack these specifically engineered cups up and down as quickly as possible... in a certain formation, of course. I found it sooooo intriguing, that i decided to buy a set of crazy cups from the instructor as well. hahha will demonstrate to you guys once i've mastered it. I'm aiming for maybe year 2010. hahahah.

Anyways at night, i picked up the frujch people from school and went for some (non-alcoholic) drinks at serangoon gardens... and of course we shared a few good laughs once again. I sent everyone back thereafter... But i really enjoyed myself just driving around, really. at 2+ am in the morn, the roads of singapore are actually quite pleasant. Woohooooo!
